We are proud to announce that Courage to Call, TURN Behavioral Health Services’ veteran-led outreach and resource navigation program, has been named a finalist for the San Diego Business Journal’s Community Impact Award, which recognizes programs and organizations demonstrating exceptional results in areas such as healthcare, veteran services, housing, education, and economic mobility.
Serving San Diego County’s military-connected community, Courage to Call provides support to veterans, active duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, and their families. Through its unique veteran-led, peer-to-peer model, every individual who reaches out is connected with someone who understands military culture and the challenges that can accompany service, transition, and daily life. This approach helps break down barriers to seeking assistance and ensures that support is accessible, compassionate, and effective.
Over the past year, Courage to Call served 904 veterans, service members, and military-connected individuals, while also supporting 1,967 family members. Through personalized resource navigation and care coordination, the program connected individuals and families with housing assistance, food resources, behavioral health services, employment support, legal aid, and financial assistance.
The program’s impact is reflected in its remarkable 97.35% successful linkage rate, connecting 1,672 individuals to critical services through partnerships with organizations across San Diego County. These efforts included 881 successful food assistance connections and 363 housing-related linkages, helping military families achieve greater stability and self-sufficiency.
Whether helping a veteran family furnish a new home after overcoming housing instability or connecting individuals with life-changing services through a single phone call, Courage to Call remains dedicated to ensuring that no veteran or military family has to face challenges alone.
